Make A Donation

Your help makes it possible for seniors of modest means to remain independent in their homes with services such as Meals on Wheels, Home Care, Group Dining and transportation. Without a home-care option, many of Darlington's frail elderly have no choice but to move to a nursing home. That is sad for them and costly for taxpayers.

How your donation helps

By donating to the Darlington County Council on Aging, you help preserve and enhance services that help seniors remain in their homes and avoid unnecessary placement in nursing facilities.

Meals on Wheels, group dining, transportation, and homecare are among the services provided, depending on each person's needs.

Without these services, many seniors of modest means -- especially those on their own -- are forced to leave their homes and enter nursing facilities, where most soon run out of money and go onto Medicaid. This is heartbreaking for seniors, family, community, and expensive for taxpayers. Darlington County Council on Aging is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization recognized by the IRS. All donations are tax deductible.

Volunteer Your Time

No matter what your age, profession, or skill level, there are lots of ways you can get involved in the community and help older adults. If you're interested in volunteering your time or skills to help older adults in our community, there are a number of ways you can get involved.

Currently, volunteers are needed for the following:
  1. Help people with arthritis and chronic health conditions. They will learn how to take control of their health, their life, and their health care costs. We offer several programs. These programs include Living Well, South Carolina, Matter of Balance, Arthritis Exercise and Arthritis Self Help, and we are looking for leaders and host organizations for these proven programs. No experience or medical background necessary -- just a willingness to help people improve their quality of life. Free training available. Some leaders may be eligible for a stipend.
  2. Volunteers are needed to help educate older adults about Medicare and to help prevent Medicare fraud. Free training is provided.
  3. Join our Speaker's Bureau. Are you or your organization an expert on a particular topic related to aging? Our speaker's bureau could use you. We frequently receive calls from area businesses, social service agencies, community groups and others looking for speakers on specific aging related topics. Call 843.393.8521 to find out how you can get involved.
  4. Be an Advocate in your community. There are many ways you can help older adults in your own community, including volunteering during fundraising campaigns; attending town hall meetings; sending messages to elected officials to keep them engaged in issues related to older adults; or writing a letter to the editor of your local paper.
If you are interested in helping in one of these ways, please contact 843.393.8521 or send us an e-mail. Be sure to include your first and last name, county of residence and a phone number where you can be reached.
